To address an increasing interest to tree-ring studies from different parts of scientific community, the DELA is actively involved in running Fennoscandian dendroecological fieldweeks, Master/PhD level intensive course aimed providing student with first-hand experience in dendrochronological methods. Laboratory was the principal organizer of first three fieldweeks held in Sweden and Russia, and also contributed to the last, the 4th fieldweek held in As, Norway. Since the time of the first week (Lövåsgården, Grövelsjön, Sweden), more than 50 students and researchers attended this course. Currently we are in the process of organizing the 5th dendroweek (see below).

4th Fennoscandian Dendroecological Fieldweek, Norway, August 16-22 2009


This week was arranged by  Dr. Ken Olaf Storaunet (Norwegian Forest and Landscape Institute) in cooperation with Professor Mikael Ohlson (Dept. of Ecology and Natural Resource Management, Norwegian University of Life Sciences), Ås, Norway.  Mats Niklasson (DELA) participated as a teacher in this course.

3rd Fennoscandian Dendroecological Fieldweek, Ladva,Vepsski nature park, Russia May 28 - June 03 2004


For the first time in the history of the Fennoscandian fieldweeks, the course took place in the boreal forests of Russian North-West. Read more about this event ..



2nd Fennoscandian Dendroecological Fieldweek, September 1-7, 2003, Tyresta, Sweden


The course took place in and around the Turesta national park (Stockholm). Participants of the course also joined a meeting of the Network for Dendroecological and Dendrochronological Research in Northern Europe, which was held in connection with the fieldweek. Read more about this event ..



1st Fennoscandian Dendroecological Fieldweek, Lövåsgården, Grövelsjön, Sweden, June 11 - 17 , 2001


The course was held in Grovelsjon, in the northern part of Dalarna province of Sweden. Here we find almost pristine pine and spruce forests growing close to the treeline. Read more about this event ..
