Eastern Siberia features the highest levels of fire activity across Eurasia. On the stand scale, the mean return interval stays around 5 to 15 years. Low amount of annual precipitation, just below 300 mm, creates pronounced fire-prone conditions almost every summer. Compared to less fire regions of the boreal zone, fire chronologies in Yakutia are expected to be more sensitive to the its environmental controls. The work to develop a regional fire chronology from fire scars on pines and larch is currently ongoing.
